erosion

erosion is inevitable

the grains of sand flee-
tumble this way and that,
one-by-one
on awkward edges

once moist and malleable
the summer heat leaves them
dry and loose
and the precipice of winter
won't restore them...

if you can't save the barren lands
just prescribe me the memory-
the faint trace of conversation
or silhouette of your bodies
swaying in front of the fire...

and rise-
like an amazon-
like a phoenix-
and guide us on the paths
